ACM Multimedia 2010 Gala Dinner was held yesterday in Salone dei 500 at Palazzo Vecchio. It was a wonderful night in a beautiful place. During the dinner were also awarded the authors of the best paper, best student paper and best demos.
Best paper award: Richang Hong, Meng Wang, Mengdi Xu, Shuicheng Yan, Tat-Seng Chua, Dynamic Captioning: Video Accessibility Enhancement for Hearing Impairment

Dr. Mubarak Shah held today his keynote speech Visual Crowd Surveillance is Like Hydrodynamics. Dr. Mubarak showed novel methods for segmentation of flows in crowd videos at a macroscopic level, and to track individuals, detect and localize abnormal behaviors using social force model at a microscopic level.

First Keynote Speech of Duncan Watts at ACM Multimedia 2010

Duncan Watts (author of Six Degrees: The Science of a Connected Age) opened the ACM Multimedia 2010 Main Conference Program with his keynote speech Using the Web to do Social Science. Duncan described, in particular, several interesting experiments concerning the measurement problems of collective behavior and focused on how the study of social networks can overcome this limitation.

ACM Multimedia 2010 volunteers are ready

ACM Multimedia 2010 volunteers have met on saturday in Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence to plan all the activities to do during the conference.

All these young and talented students also received the ACMMM2010 t-shirt, created by the interaction design lab staff at MICC, in order to be recognizable by all the conference attendees.
